Training at the Track

At our Club track, based at Worthing Leisure Centre, we train in all Track and Field disciplines. From the Throws - Shot, Discus, Hammer and Javelin, to the Jumps - Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump and Pole Vault, to Sprints and Middle Distance. In fact we have events to suit every member.
The track sessions in Middle Distance include training for Road and Cross Country competitions.
We currently have a number of disabled members in our Throws group and welcome enquiries from any disabled athletes for training in any discipline.

For a timetable of training sessions available during the week go to 'Training General Information' above.
Training for Road, Trail and Cross Country is split into two basic sessions.

  • Tuesdays:- This session is based around Speed circuits, Hill Reps. and Fartlek.
  • Thursdays:- Sessions are based on steady runs over longer distance.
Any sessions that start away from the track are noted in the published schedule

Track & Field Safety & Etiquette

  • The Track and the Field inside the track are dangerous places, it is important that CARE is taken at all times.
  • On the track always run round in an anti clockwise direction. (That's the way that you race.)
  • Always be AWARE of what other people are doing on the track and give them the respect the deserve.
  • Runners training hard must be given the right of way, so if you have run your session move out from the inside lanes.
  • When you are jogging/warming up/warming down then keep to the outer lanes or use the grass on the outside of the track.
  • When you are in the field area do not run. Be on lookout for what events are being coached. Walk round the edge of the field.
  • When you are throwing look around to make sure it is safe to start your throw.

  • Coaching & Officials

All coaching sessions should be supervised by a coach of at least a level 2 grade, this is for insurance purposes.
Level 1 coaches are insured only to help a coach who is a level 2 or above, a level 1 coach can take a session if it under the control of a higher coach.
We are keen to increase the number of coaches that we have and we have a budget that allows us to look at meeting the costs of courses.

When our teams travel to League meetings we are expected to take officials to that meeting, to ensure that the meeting can be staged.
We should take track and field officials, if there are no officials there is no meeting. Help us by supporting the Club in their commitments.
Like the coaching situation there is likely to help from the Club towards the costs of courses
