Training for Road (& Fun) Runners

This large group meets (mainly) in the Leisure Centre - in the Cafe Area - Tuesday and Thursday evenings - Training starts at 6:30pm.

Training for the road, trail and cross country is split into two basic sessions. Tuesdays are essentially for strength training based around Speed circuits, Hill repetitions and Fartlek sessions, whilst the Thursday sessions are more for stamina training, based on steady paced runs over longer distances. Any session, which starts away from the Leisure Centre will be noted in the published schedule. Groups also meet on Sunday mornings throughout the year, for longer steady runs. These depend on what races are forthcoming and consist of two options - both groups meeting at 8.30am, but at various venues. For details of these runs, contact either of the lead coaches, mentioned on the website Noticeboard, which is updated regularly.

The training schedule can be found also on the club noticeboard at the Leisure Centre.

Safety & Etiquette

When you are running on the roads, make sure that everyone who starts the run is OK throughout the run. Make sure that new members have company, so they do not get lost. If you feel that you are unable to go all the way round the agreed route, tell someone that you are taking a shorter route. Give way to vehicles- they are bigger and stronger than you. When running on dark nights, make sure that you have on high visibility clothing - give the other road users a chance.

If youngsters are taken on road runs, make sure that there are sufficient helpers to ensure their safety.
