Chichester Challenge - [16th Mar 2010]
Good news from the front line at Chichester, following another foray from the Worthing Hares and Worthing Ladies. Although Rachel Ogden was not available to take part in the second round, her team-mates kept the flag flying and, whilst they slipped to second place behind three much improved “Hungry Caterpillars”, their aggregate times still maintain first position overall in the “Ladies” event. In the final round next week, the combination of Rachel Ogden, Rebecca Moore, Amber Wallace and Rachel Gifford, in whatever order, should be sufficient to repel all boarders. On this occasion, the Worthing Ladies managed a “B” team (Victoria and Hannah Seth with April Clarke) but, having missed the initial set of races, will not qualify for a team award.
The Worthing Hares are pursuing a similar path, over the same 4500m course. The team of Mark Burchett, Tom Marsden, Michael DiLaura and John Morrey were holding onto fourth place after the first round, but have now clawed their way into third position overall in the “Sports Teams” event, but they will have to shave a minute off each of their PBs to pose a danger to the leading teams. Nevertheless, there is a prospect some medals, with the likes of Henry Teague-Smith and Marcus Stainsby in close order and in support.
The Junior runners were in action again and although this Portsmouth girl always seems to loom out of the darkness on the last lap to snatch victory, Harriers India Spoor, Emily Moore, Leah Harris, Imogen Marshall, Millie and Sophie Williams and Tara Bage are all prominently high up in the results of their respective age groups. This also goes for the male gender of the species, as Ryan Todd, Ollie Graveson, Dan Colbourne, Tom Lankshear and Kristian Musgrave have all made their mark, again over the same course, but over four laps – one more than the girls.
Finally, but not least, and running the gauntlet on her own, Emma Spoor, the sole Harrier in the Primary Girls race, is looking good for a medal.

Lido 4 Fun Run - [8th Feb 2010]
The Lido 4 set of races took place in below zero temperatures, but this did not cool the ardour of either junior or senior contestants.
This annual WSFRL fixture is hosted by Worthing Harriers, so many of the usual Harrier fun runners were on marshalling duty. However, the juniors turned out in force and filled the first five places and took twelve of the first twenty-four positions out of a total of seventy finishers. Pride of place goes to Henry Teague-Smith, who won the race in 5:43, chased by Ollie Graveson 5:49 and India Spoor 5:50, the first girl home.
In the senior race, the course record almost went to winner, Matt Dumigan, whose 20:20 was only one second outside Tom Naylor’s 20:19 in 2008. Ex-Harrier (now Crawley A.C.), Matt Furber, pushed his namesake to the line and finished second in 20:45. Abi Fowlie (23rd overall) was the first woman home in 24:30, followed by Rebecca Moore (28th overall), the second woman in 24:45.
To crown a satisfying morning’s effort, Henry Teague-Smith used his junior victory as a warm-up for the senior race, in which he finished in twentieth place and was also the third Harrier man in 24:16.
Octogenarian, John Hay of Portslade, sealed a well organised and well supported event, when he finished in 436th place, a very creditable performance.
