2010 Womens Adidas 5km Road Race in Hyde Park-5th September - [6th Sep 2010]
Under 20 800m County Champion, Abi Fowlie, was invited by the organisers to compete with the elite field at the weekend's Womens Adidas 5km Road Race held in Hyde Park, televised by the BBC. Abi lined up alongside the current World 10,000m Champion, Linet Masai and current kenyan and ethiopian stars of distance running, Sylvia Kibet and Werknesh Kidane. She also faced Great Britaian internationals Jo Pavey and Steph Twell as well as other international athletes. Even though Abi was running well over her normal distance, she kept with the pace of the race in the early stages and was able to maintain a good consistent pace to finish a fantastic 33rd out of 15,000 elite and non-elite athletes.

2010 WSFRL Beach Run-18th July - [19th Jul 2010]
On Sunday morning amongst a field of some 33 juniors and 199 seniors the WDH 'Team Green' was out in force again at the challenging Middleton-on-Sea Beach Fun Run.
The juniors raced 1/2 mile around the sports field and the seniors raced 5 miles across sand and pepples giving the legs a really good work-out !
Congratulations to all members in helping the club to achieve maximum participation points plus maximum scoring points once again. A special mention for the overall senior race winner, Paul Bond, a new WDH member making his debut in the Fun Run League. Well done Paul.

The next WSFRL fixture will continue to work the legs for you hardy distance runners around the hilly Highdown Hike on Wednesday 4th August !

2010 WSFRL Wivelsfield Woodland Wobble-11th July - [15th Jul 2010]
Once again Worthing District Harriers had a good show of 'green vests' for this successful West Sussex Fun Run League fixture claiming maximum points.
The juniors started the day off well on their 1 mile course around Wivelsfield sports field with Henry Teague-Smith, Ollie Graveson, Abdul Ogunlayi and Jack Woods claiming the first 4 places.
Obviously not content with his 3rd place in the junior event Abdul joined in alongside other WDH juniors in the seniors' 4.5 mile race !
The seniors' multi terrain course headed out onto the paths and bridleways on and around Ditchling Common. Adam Stephens was the first 'green vest' to cross the finish line followed closely by Jon Austin, they finished in 6th and 7th places respectively. Rebecca Moore and Deborah Cawdery were the 3rd and 5th ladies home respectively.
Well done everyone.

Middleton-on-Sea is the next WSFRL fixture to be held on Sunday 18th July so may the 'green vest' brigade continue to score well.

2010 Midsummer 10K-27th June - [27th Jun 2010]
Heathfield Road Runners hosted this year's 'undulating' Sussex Grand Prix Event in conditions more akin to those found on the Med ! In temperatures in excess of 26 degrees C and with little breeze this was to be a tough race for most.
Athletes were already making the most of the shady spots prior to the start and once racing the pretty tree lined lanes offered some respite from the strong sun.
On this well marshalled course with much encouragement and with two very welcome water stations the heat still took it's toll on a few. With energy depleted and strength zapped from legs comraderie soon struck up between rival club members to dig deep up the final hill to the finish. That little familiar voice inside the head was surely working overtime today saying 'keep it going, don't quit' !
The endorphines whizzing through the brain at the end were soon to push the discomfort endured to the back of the mind enabling contemplation of the next character building race !
Don't you just love distance running ? OK, maybe not all the time !!
Well done to everyone today and to the handful of WDH athletes who stuck the course.

2010 Southern U20 Championships-12th/13th June - [14th Jun 2010]
At the Crystal Palace meet Britt Saville again showed the strength of the young endurance squad at Worthing by leading from start to finish in the U20 women 1500m to become the Southern Champion. No one was able to match Britt's pace as she led from the gun....her dominance allowed her to comfortably win by 70m.

2010 Sussex Schools Track and Field Championships-12th June - [14th Jun 2010]
Over the weekend some of WDH's young endurance athletes competed in the Sussex Schools Track and Field Championships at the K2 Centre, Crawley.

Tom Marsden set the tone of the day's events when he ran away from the field in the senior boys 800m to cross the line with a 50m margin. Abi Fowlie dominated her race too in the senior girls 800m winning by the same distance. Rebecca Moore capped an amazing week by completing her 3rd PB in 4 days ! After achieving bests at 5km and then at the finish of Worthing's 10km on Wednesday she completed the 4 days with a runaway victory in the senoir girls 3000m in a time of 10:46. Phina Sunderland continued to show her opposition a clean pair of heals by winning the intermediate girls 3000m in a PB of 10:49, leaving the field a long way behind.
Other good performances at the K2 Centre came from Emily Moore who finished 5th in the intermediate girls 1500m, she still has another year in the age group. Megan Lille finished 4th in the intermediate girls 800m.

2010 Worthing & District Harriers 10K Road Race-9th June - [10th Jun 2010]
With electronic timing chips attached around ankles and in near perfect weather conditions athletes left the track of Worthing's Leisure Centre under the starter's hooter to take to the roads and promenade of Worthing's fast, flat course.
In the midst of some 600 runners WDH green vests soon became visible once the field spread out. Marshals, family, friends and residents were out in force encouraging the mass around this 10K course, one of the races in the Sussex Grand Prix Series.
Once back on the track for the finish Maureen's voice was audible from the tannoy encouraging finishers to find that 'little extra' push to cross the finish line ! Maybe this was enough to help some runner's to achieve their goals, or, like me, to finish others off ! Thanks Maureen.

Paul Bond was the first WDH man to finish in a time of 34:51.
Rebecca Moore was the first WDH lady to finish in a time of 39:45. A great run by Rebecca as she broke 40:00 for the fist time.

2010 Regional BMC Races-19th May - [21st May 2010]
Worthing Harriers' duo Britt Saville and Abi Fowlie travelled to Crawley to participate in the Regional BMC (British Miler's Club) Races on Wednesday of this week.
Britt was first to race in her 1500m event where she found herself in a strong, competitive field. She was able to maintain a consistent pace throughout to once again smash her own, recently attained, club record. Her new personal best now stands at 4:34:87 taking almost 4 seconds off her previous time. Maybe we should rename her race the BMC ('Britt's Master Class') Race !
Next to run was Abi Fowlie. She ran her socks off in an extremely tough 1500m race which started at a great pace ! She too, ran a fantastic race and herself attained a new personal best of 2:14:38 which is almost 2.5 seconds faster than she has run before.
There is no stopping this awesome duo as they go from strength to strength. An inspiration to us all.

2010 Sussex Track and Field Championships-8th/9th May - [13th May 2010]
In unseasonal damp, cold conditions at the Crawley K2 Centre the club's young athletes produced some great personal performances bringing home seven medals from the track to kick off the 2010 summer season. Three further medals from track performances were brought home by senior club athletes.
Many Congratulations to Britt Saville for her contribution to the medal tally and setting herself not only a PB but also claiming a new club record for Under 20 Women 1500m.
Coaches and athletes have obviously worked hard together across the cold winter months. It therefore makes all those horrible, dark and icy training sessions that we all dreaded so worthwhile ! A big thank you to all our coaches.
