Introduction

The purpose of the Club Plan is to set out Worthing & District Harriers' Plan for the three years from January 2002 to December 2004.

Background

2002 is the Club's 75th year, during which time it has developed from a small 'harriers' running group into a fully fledged and diverse athletics club with over 250 members and a very proud record of participation and achievement by its athletes, officials and administrators locally, regionally and nationally.

In recent years the structure, organisation and approach of the Club has become more professional. We are ambitious to use this as a base for moving forward at some speed in meeting the Club's and the sport's aspirations in the modern world of athletics. To achieve this it has been necessary to plan more clearly and in more detail than ever before the steps needed for success.

Moving forward

The nature of this Plan is to describe the Club's commitment to new initiatives aimed at increasing the club membership and increasing participation in athletics in the local community. One aspect of this is that the Club will take advantage of the ever-increasing number of opportunities to co-ordinate with, and support initiatives taken by, other bodies and individuals with similar goals. Whilst doing this we will ensure that the many existing strengths of the Club are maintained and enhanced.

In preparation for this the Club has taken stock of its situation in some detail, including the audit undertaken for 'Club Future 1' and are clear as to what the main challenges are over the next three years.

The sections in the Plan provide detailed descriptions of the tasks that will be undertaken to support the overall objectives of:

  1. Encouraging increased participation in the sport of athletics.
  2. Responding to the individual needs of our members to see that they receive maximum benefit from the club.
  3. Utilising the facilities available to us to the maximum and seeking to extend those facilities.
  4. Widening our commitment to our own neighbourhood through working even more closely with local authorities and various sporting interests.
  5. Achieving successful team competition.
  6. Ensuring that the Club continues to be able to contribute funds to its planned development.
