The Harriers had a day of mixed results last Saturday on the frozen cross country course at Plumpton College, the venue of the second meeting in the Sussex XC League fixture list.

As usual, the girls showed the way with Georgina Searle, Erin Bateman and Emma Spoor finishing together in sixth, eighth and ninth places respectively in the Under 13s Girls race, in which their team secured second spot. They retain their second position in the league with two more meetings to go.

India Spoor comfortably won her Under 15 Girls’ race over 4000m, half a minute ahead of her nearest rival. Supported by Leah Harris and Millie Williams, the team just held onto third place and also retain their second position in the relevant league table.

There were good performances by Ryan Todd (U17M), Lauren Bourne (U17W) and Josephine Sunderland (U17W) in their respective events, but the honours must go to the Senior Men’s team, which finished in third place in Division Two, despite three of the four members of the team being veterans. They were led home by Martin Footman (Senior), who finished fourth overall in a closely-fought contest, with only sixteen seconds covering second to fifth places. Veterans Pete Lay (O50), John Austin (O40) and Alan Clark (O60) completed the team, which still holds onto second position in their division.

More Harriers please for the next fixtures at Bexhill in January and the final meeting at Lancing Manor in February.
