Sussex Cross Country Championships
posted on Friday Jan 13 2012

Its going to be a busy month for cross country runners in the County with League, Southerns, Schools and Masters Champs all in the next few weeks. The busy period began with the County Championships on Sunday at Stanmer Park on another mild a sunny day. Where’s the mud? The Cross Country traditionalists may say!

The good conditions made for fast, high standard competition and there were medalists in both senior races for Worthing athletes; with Matt Dumigan and Becca Moore both coming home third in their respective races. There was also another good run for Martin Footman, finishing in 8th place in the senior race. Next on the calendar is the cross country league at Bexhill this Saturday with the Schools and Masters the following Saturday at Lancing Manor.

We have an Olympic Torch Bearer!

Congratulations to Claire Moyle who has been given the honour of carrying the Olympic torch on its way to London’s Olympic stadium in July! Claire will be carrying the torch for a 1 mile leg along the Hampshire coastline between Bournemouth and Portland Bill. The honour is fitting recognition of her coaching with the clubs disability group, well done Claire!

    Don Smith

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Don Smith at the age of 79. In his roles as coach, team manager, event organiser, committee member, official, mentor and friend to so many at the club and throughout the athletics network, Don will be simply irreplaceable. There will be a book of remembrance circulating on club training nights for those who would like to write a few words about Don.

Don leaves his wife Sue, children Linda, Martin, Paul and Nicola and several grand children to whom we extend our thoughts and sympathy. The funeral service will be at Worthing Crematorium on Monday 19th December at 3pm.

Sussex Cross Country League: Race 2 Plumpton

Its the half way stage in the X Country League and there were more good performances at Plumpton with the ladies holding onto 1st place in the Senior competition and the men in third after two races. Well done to all the seniors and juniors, with several sitting in medal positions across all age groups with two races to go.  WDH has traditionally held a strong X Country presence in the county and its great to see the green vests enjoying the mud!

Thanks to Graham for more great photos.
