It was another sunny but chilly day at Goodwood on Saturday for the first of four Winter cross country league fixtures. It was the senior teams that stood out with another excellent run from Sharon Elder finishing 2nd in the Senior Womens race (1st V35), with the team of Lauren Bourne, Phina Sunderland and Rachel Gifford taking first in the team result.

In the Senior Mens race, first Harrier home in 5th place was Martin Footman, closely followed by the strong Harriers team of Adam Stainsby, Mark Burchett, Paul Bond (2nd V40), Henry Teague-Smith and Pete Lay (1st V50) to finish in 2nd place in the team result. Elsewhere good runs by our U17 Men placed the team in third place, Alan Clarke finished 2nd in the V60 category and an excellent 2nd in the U15′s girls race for India Spoor.

Well done to all Harriers, Race 2 now heads to Plumpton on the 26th November.

    Steepdown Challenge

posted on Wednesday Oct 19, 2011 by Gavin

The final race of the 2011 West Sussex Fun Run League took place at Lancing Manor on Sunday. Hosted by Lancing Eagles the ‘Steepdown Challenge’ suitably named as it includes several hill climbs was run over a distance of approximately 5m.

The large team of Harriers included both senior and junior members contributing towards the overall total points score for the race, which resulted in another win for the team.

With this being the final race of the season, once again Worthing & District Harriers have succeeded in winning the West Sussex Fun Run League and demonstrated how participating members of all ages and abilities have helped towards achieving this success.

The excellent team spirit and club camaraderie was very evident as members showed their appreciation to Maureen Lewis as she retires from her position as team manager. Darren Lodge was welcomed as her replacement and will commence his new role with the ‘Hangover 5m’ race early in January 2012.

Our U15 girls team of Leah Harris, Milly Williams and India Spoor, won bronze medals with Katie Lankshire also runnning well in this agegroup.

In the vet categories our V35 womens team is looking very strong for the upcoming season; Sharon Harvey, Sarah Wells and Deborah Cawdery winning team gold, with Sharon also being the fastest V35 split. Fastest times of the day in the mens V40 and V50 categories also went to Harriers, well done Paul Bond and Pete Lay.
