The early season club record breaking continues with a new U15 1500m record for Leah Harris.
Competing at the Watford open meeting on Wednesday, Leah ran 4.48.8mins to break the 27 year old record of Sarah Hayes by 3 seconds. This time puts Leah well under the English Schools qualifying time of 4.51mins. Well done Leah, and hopefully we’ll see this time continually lowered throughout the season!
On a sunny but windy bank holiday two club records were broken at events around the country.
At the British Universities Championships in Bedford, Emma Perkins began her comeback season with a new PB, club record, and gold medal clearing 1.81m in the high jump. Representing Cambridge University, Emma has been out of mainstream athletics since 2005 whilst concentrating on her studies. With a new PB this early in the season it certainly looks promising for further improvements over the Summer.
The first match in the Seniors Joint League proved a tough day at the office; with many Harriers competing elsewhere or preparing for exams. Highlights were Robert Duke in the hammer, with a throw of 44.77 to break the 33 year old senior club record, Rob is a first year U20! Manny Ogunniyi in the long jump with an impressive 6.36m, the V40 long jump certainly looks in danger next year by the 39 year old Manny.
Looking towards the next League match on 21st May, team managers will be looking for maximum participation to make an impact on this league!
