On Friday at the Metropole Hotel, Brighton, the golden quartet of Beth Close, Georgie Hook, Sophie Spinner and Anna Short, were declared the Sussex Young Sports Team of the Year – a crowning achievement to the string of much publicised successes on the track in 2010. The award was presented by British Olympian, Katherine Merry.
Sophia Warner, the club’s outstanding C.P. athlete, was presented with the Sussex Disabled Sports Personality of the Year award, a fitting climax to an astonishing track season.
Congratulations to the Worthing Harriers Road Runners who have won the senior and junior titles in the 2010 West Sussex Fun Run League.
The road runners group has been getting stronger and stronger in recent years, and the WSFRL league is an excellent opportunity for club members of all abilities to score points for the club.
This years highest points scorer was Pete Lay, who totalled 150pts, and only missed the Wivelsfield Wobble because he got lost on the way to the race!
Alan Denyer, Sprints coach for Worthing & District Harriers has been recognised by England Athletics by winning the South East Region Performance Coach Award of the year. Alan mostly trains young athletes but also trains the Worlds No 2 Cerebral Palsy athlete, Sophia Warner.
