SUSSEX UNDER 15 LEAGUE – END OF THE SEASON
Charles Dickens has nothing on our Under 15s team, whose Great Expectations were rewarded at the Finals meeting at Lewes on Friday evening. For much of the meeting, the leading places were keenly fought between four teams, Brighton, Chichester, Crawley and Worthing with only a few points separating them. The first spot changed frequently, as the results of the individual events were converted into scores, but eventually, Crawley prevailed, when the Harriers’ 4 x 300m relay team was disqualified, due to a discrepancy between the League Rules and those applied at these combined Finals. An infuriating way to lose points, but in terms of athletic prowess, Worthing were supreme.
The team was unable to field any pole-vaulters or male 1500m runners, an omission, which must be remedied. Minimum points from these events would have secured success. Excellent individual performances are too many to mention, but the full results can be found attached to a copy of this report on the "Results" page.
Final scores:
1. Crawley ...... 336 ................................. 6. Eastbourne 224
2. Worthing..... 333.5 .............................. 7. Haywards Heath 204.5
3. Brighton ..... 331.5 .............................. 8. Horsham 41
4. Chichester... 301.5 .............................. 9. Hastings 20
5. Lewes......... 281
Also on view, are the current League Records, in which Worthing feature significantly. Sophie Spinner holds three records (one jointly), with Craig Dummer, Ellis Lockwood, Amelia Thompson (jointly) and the Worthing Girls’ 4 x 100m Relay Team all having one apiece.
